Weightloss Journey: Half-Year Update

Introduction

We are half way through 2023. Honestly, I’m still in shock but yet here we are. Back in January I wrote about my New Year’s goals and how I want to reach my weightloss goal to lose 30 pounds by the time we celebrate 2024. To keep myself honest and to update you on my journey here is my half-year update.

My current status!

Let’s start with the good news first. I lost 5 pounds in the first 6 weeks. Super exciting! But, now 15 weeks later… I’ve gained 10 pounds. (Insert crying emoji) This is devastating news and super frustrating for my journey but it is what it is and now we have to move forward.

What Went Well

To celebrate the successes and not to dwell on the setbacks, let’s chat about what went well.
  1. My plan works! As much work as it is to do my plan, I know it works. Especially meal planning. Ensuring I have satisfying meals prepared helped me to stay within my calorie allotment. It prevented me from overeating and from craving foods that are not good for me.
  2. Committing to the Peloton. Doing the Peloton on a daily basis helped me to burn additional calories as well as tone my body and make good food choices because I didn’t want to derail my workouts. I also drank so much more water because I was sweating so much.

Bumps in the Road

It’s amazing how quickly we can gain weight when we deviate from our plans. For over the last 5 weeks, I have been going through quite a funk. As I mention in my post, I haven’t been very interested in going on the Peloton, I have lost a lot of motivation, so it caused me to not be as disciplined as I was. This resulted in my eating out more, snacking on junk food, and not taking Peloton classes. So, the weight came on like a snap.

What Now

Well, I’m back to square one or Day 1. What I learned is, I can’t let my mental health impact my weightloss journey. So, I have incorporated the following steps to keep me on track:

  1. In addition to my weightloss plan, I’m going to incorporate the steps here (link post) to manage my mental health as part of my plan.
  2. Do any physical activity even if I don’t feel like doing the Peloton. Take the stairs at the office and walk Brutus more frequently.
  3. I’m not going to spend money on foods that tempt me like candy, chips and ice cream. This will help me from binge eating.
  4. When meal prepping, make satisfying and tasty meals. Also, I won’t experiment on new recipes when I’m in a funk. Stick to what I like and enjoy.

Conclusion

It is a bummer to have gained weight. I was really hoping to have a better half-year update for y’all and for myself, but hey the bright side is I know I can lose weight. Are you also on a weightloss journey? How is it going? Share your progress, any tips that have worked for you below in the comments. I’d love to hear from you.
