Protecting My Skin While on Vacay

Hey there everyone from beautiful Hawaii. I’m spending the week in Ko Olina, Hawaii with my parents to celebrate their belated 50th Wedding Anniversary. This trip is my gift to celebrate such an amazing milestone. So, we are soaking in every bit of this wonderful and beautiful place.

Of course, being in paradise is relaxing and fun but it is also hard on the skin. Every activity is being out in the sun. Sure, you get a glowing complexion but it can also cause damage and premature aging. Over the years, I have spent so much time, money and more to remove the sun damage from years of not wearing sunscreen and working at a tanning salon, so it is important to me that I don’t reverse all the work I have done.

This is why, while on vacation I’m doing everything I can to protect my face from any sun damage. I was thinking about writing this post as I sit here at the beach seeing so many men and women not protecting themselves and I thought, gosh if you only knew. I even reminded my mom to put sunscreen on her face and offered a spare hat. It’s important to protect your skin at any age. So what should you do?

First, I wear sunscreen with SPF 50 and reapply every 2-hours as advised by my dermatologist and esthetician.

Second, I wear a sunhat (check out my favorite hats below) or baseball cap to cover my face. I prefer sunhats because of the wide brim but while I was on the golf course with my dad, I wore a baseball cap and stayed in the cart as much as I could.

Finally, I keep up on my skincare routine day and night to ensure my skin gets the nutrients it needs to stay nourished.

I know it might seem obvious but it is amazing how many people don’t think to take these steps to protect their face.

Now, do you want to know something ironic? I spent so much time protecting my face that my arms and legs are sunburned and I look like a lobster. My lesson, don’t use spray sunscreen because you truly don’t get the coverage you need to protect from being burned and you need to invest in protecting your body as well.

I hope this helps you protect your skin on your next vacation.

Until next time, have a joy filled day.
